Dreams Come True!!!!

Competing in competitions is not an easy task. The pressure of performing in front of hundreds of people with the clock on you, pressure to succeed for your loved ones, yourself and even your models is tough. Doing two categories at one event is even harder. Many have attempted it but few have won both. Here's one student barber that has done it. K.D Lucas!!!

J.C: Where are you from K.D.?

K.D : I’m from Chicago South Side & many other areas and sides of the city. Very Cultured lol!

J.C:What school are you currently attending?

K.D: I attend Tricoci University Of Beauty Culture Highland Campus.

J.C: What made you want to enter the barber field?

K.D: I was bread into hair. My mom and dad attended Pivot Point & John Amico... plus my Grandma had her own salon. I’ve always been in and worked in her and my dads shop as a kid. I worked in shops from grammar school to high school... the hustle & grind was just in me.

J.C: The Wahl competition is one of the biggest stages to compete on. Having won this show myself I know how hard it is. What did you do to get prepared for your categories?

K.D: Lost a lot of sleep, spent a lot of time on it all coming together as planned and spent a lot of money lol... It was a great investment when it comes to the gratification & hardware that was obtained.

J.C: What made you decide to get into both categories?

K.D: I just want to challenge myself every chance I get. Push a little harder each time... I knew I could do one... I’ve done that... but can I succeed in 2 back to back categories to at least place let alone come out on top in both. Unbelievable cause I’ve never really won anything on this level.

J.C: Going in did you know that the number is very few of barbers that have competed in multiple categories and won both/all of them?

K.D: Maaaan No Way! I really didn’t do the research on the number and odds of this happening... I constantly spoke of winning 1st place twice prior to the competition because I know how thinking positive works. And it wasn’t in a cocky manner... it was confidence in my return to the competition arena after losing 2 prior comps last year.

J.C: What went through your mind when you won the 1st category?

K.D: Woooow and thank the Lord! Cause he and my family truly got me through this. And I finally freakin won!!! Lol

J.C: What went through your mind when you won the 2nd category?

K.D: The 1st one was lit... but the second one was special because it was the first one me and my oldest son won together. It was his first comp & it also showed him you can do anything you put your mind feet and hands to!

J.C: What do you think it takes to become a successful competition barber?

K.D: Consistency, Courage, Passion(love of for craft), Tough Skin, Heart, Creativity, Selflessness, Skill, Technique, Professionalism, Morals & Humility.

J.C: What are your goals for the next 5 years?

K.D: To be a Master colorist... a phenomenal Master celebrity Barber/Stylist internationally known... using my talents in film as well as television... working with an extraordinary color line as an educator and platform demo artist... while having an additional hand in special effects makeup art in film just to name a few.
